Kashmiri weddings are elaborate affairs… from the match making process to the actual ‘function’ which lasts for many days. There are rituals lasting for days… there is singing and the tumbakhnaer….And of course there is food food and food.
I see these pics and I can actually smell the wazwan.. ummm…
the ‘masala’ – the good things that make the nose twitch and the tongue drip… (he he )
no wazwaan without MEAT!!!
Zaamdod! (Curd to eat your food with)
Red hot chillies being softened…
THE COOKING PROCESS
and while you wait for food to get ready why not nibble at these:
[Its been raining, and the weather is just perfect for wazwaan.. yum yum yum]
You might be interested in the followup of this blog post – which goes on explaining about the Kashmiri Wedding rituals. Check Part 2 which talks of the matchmaking process and Part 3 which talks of the post matchmaking to the actual wedding (not including the wedding) discussion. InshaAllah there is more to come!
It looks much similar to the process done in Bangladesh (except the name of foods, of course). 🙂
Hopefully I can write a description some time soon. Would love to read how things are done in Bangladesh.. 🙂
At the moment, I don’t have pics, nor enough data to write about. May be sometimes later.
i miss my wazwaan… :-(…… lets hope i get to taste it soon inshaAllah… 😉
Yeah, I like the event of the wedding and the actual Wazwan but the whole thing has been blown out of proportion. The last wedding I went to (my cousins), they served 16 dishes and countless platters of stuff like chutni etc. etc. 75% of the food went to waste. I like maintaining tradition but this one has gone overboard, they need to cut it back to manageable scales – I guarantee it would be more enjoyable.
Agreed! 🙂 Excess of everything is bad, and so it follows for the wazwan too.
Your latest post is witness to the fact how much kashmiri’s love food especially Wazwan…!!
Dont you think the post should be named “Wedding Wazwan” rather than just Wedding……..’coz there is there is lots of other stuff that happens in a “Khandar”
On a more serious note……..your blog is impressive……and liked your photography too…
Keep writing good stuff…..
oops……you are right…..its not the latest post!!
The preparation looks delicious.
Arif, I agree there is a lot more to Kashu’r Khandar besides the food. Hopefully I can pen it down some day.. Just that the pictures tempted me to put the food aspect of khandar up for the world to see. 🙂
lemme tell everyone here (as if they were present) that a wedding is actually the feast, d-wazawan,
the other th
ings are made for it.
(yeah the lazy kashmiris revolve around the stomach and not boooring things)
(ahh the tabakh maaz)
Oye! there is nothing lazy about enjoying Food!
Food is good! Say Alhamdulillah!
The only matter of concern is the excess that happens… and excess of everything is bad! 🙂
